Nomi Privacy Policy
Last Updated:
Introduction
Nomi ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how the Nomi Chrome Extension ("Extension") collects, uses, stores, and protects your information.
By using the Extension, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
Information We Collect
The Extension collects the following information:
- Note Content: The text content of notes you create using the Extension
- Note Metadata: Timestamps, categories, descriptions, and favorite status you assign to notes
- Source URLs (Optional): The URL of the webpage where you created a note, if available
- Category Information: Categories assigned to your notes, including custom categories you create
We do NOT collect:
- Personal identification information (name, email, address, etc.)
- Browsing history beyond the source URL of notes you create
- Any data from websites you visit
- Payment or financial information
How We Store Your Data
All your notes and data are stored locally on your device using Chrome's local storage API (`chrome.storage.local`). This means:
- Your data never leaves your computer unless you explicitly export it
- Your notes are not transmitted to any external servers for storage
- Your data is only accessible to you and the Extension
- If you uninstall the Extension, your data remains in Chrome's local storage until you clear it manually
AI Categorization Service
When you create a note, the Extension may send the note text to a categorization service to automatically assign a category. This service:
- Runs on a local backend server (default:
http://localhost:3001)
- Uses Google's Gemini AI to categorize your notes
- Only receives the note text content (no metadata, URLs, or other information)
- Returns only the assigned category name
- Does not store your notes or any information about them
Important: If you are running the backend server locally, your note content is only sent to your local server and then to Google's Gemini API. If you are using a remote backend server, ensure you trust that server's privacy practices.
Chrome Permissions
The Extension requires the following Chrome permissions:
- activeTab: To access the current tab's URL when creating a note (optional source URL feature)
- tabs: To query information about the current tab
- storage: To store your notes locally on your device
The Extension only accesses the current active tab's URL when you create a note, and only if the source URL feature is enabled. We do not access or store your browsing history.
Data Sharing
We do not share, sell, or rent your data to any third parties. Your notes remain private and local to your device.
The only exception is when using the AI categorization feature, where note text is sent to:
- Your local backend server (if running locally)
- Google's Gemini API (for categorization only)
No other data is transmitted outside your device.
Google Calendar Integration
The Extension includes a feature to add notes to Google Calendar. When you use this feature:
- You are redirected to Google Calendar's website
- The Extension does not access your Google Calendar data
- No authentication or calendar data is stored by the Extension
- You control what information is sent to Google Calendar
Data Security
We take data security seriously:
- All data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's secure storage API
- Data is encrypted at rest by Chrome's storage system
- No data is transmitted over the internet except for AI categorization (note text only)
- We do not have access to your data stored locally
Your Rights
You have the following rights regarding your data:
- Access: You can view all your notes at any time within the Extension
- Modify: You can edit, delete, or reorganize your notes at any time
- Delete: You can delete individual notes or all notes through the Extension interface
- Export: You can access your data through Chrome's storage API or by inspecting the Extension's storage
- Uninstall: You can uninstall the Extension at any time (note: this does not automatically delete your stored data)
Children's Privacy
The Extension is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
